Photovoltaic panels, or PV panels, are solar energy harnessing systems which convert the sun’s light directly into electricity.

Recycling end-of-life PV panels is a now legal obligation in the EU, since the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive was amended in August 2012 (Directive 2012/19/EU). The Directive was subsequently transposed into Irish law and became effective in March 2014 (WEEE Regulations – Statutory Instrument 149 of 2014).

Due to concerns over materials used in manufacturing certain models of PV panels, specialist treatment may be required. We provide an assured collection and treatment service for dealing with end-of-life PV panels, using methods that are safe for employees while also protecting the wider environment.

The facility is licenced by the Irish Environmental Protection Agency to accept and treat all WEEE, including PV panels. All dismantling and depollution operations are continuously monitored under a certified ISO 14001 Environmental Management System, and only fully permitted waste collectors are contracted to collect and deliver WEEE to the site for treatment.
